Escape to San Antonio

San Antonio is the 8th largest city in the US, and a beautiful city to boot! From its famous river walk to its diverse background and rich history, it is always a good time to visit San Antonio! In fact, San Antonio has been dubbed ‘every Texan’s favorite city’ and we can tell why!

The San Antonio Paseo del Río, or River Walk, is one of the US’ most famous and picturesque walks. The paths and stairways, made of cobblestone, were built in the 1930s as a federal project during the Depression-era. And the River Walk features some of the city’s best shops, cafes, and entertainment.”

The river walk is just one of the reasons to visit, but if you are not from Texas, then it is about time you discovered why San Antonio is so loved for yourself! Whether you come for work, pleasure, or a little bit of both this season, make sure you arrive on a private jet charter so you can enjoy your time sooner, with less hassle, crowds, waiting, and delays.

The best weather in San Antonio is in the Fall and Spring, which means now is the perfect time to plan your trip!

How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Private Jet?

Private flight can be extravagant, but the price doesn’t have to be! Even if we ignore the time you save at the airport in lines or waiting to take off, or how you can land closer to your final destination with the numerous private airports throughout the US, or even the benefit of being able to work while onboard and arrive less fatigued – flying privately has many other benefits that can be highly valuable for frequent flyers.

One of the most common questions we hear, and one of the first queries our new clients have for us, is “how much does it cost to charter a private jet?”

This is a great question as it can hugely depend, which is probably why there is so much confusion surrounding the subject. But Vault Aviation wants to be transparent, informative, and offer both quality and value. So, how much does it cost to charter a private jet? Let’s break down some of the factors and find out.

The Price Tag on Private Jets

Private jets are pricey, everyone knows that, with a Cessna CJ4 coming in at just under $10 million. And then there is the maintenance, repairs, depreciation, repositioning fees, and other factors that make outright ownership less-than-desirable for most.

But if you still want the flexibility, luxury, and ease of private flight, without all the hassle and cost, then private jet charters can be a great option. But many people don’t know what price range is even possible. Just like everyone knows that the cost of owning a private jet is high, almost no one knows the cost of chartering a private jet!

Some of this confusion is due to the vast differences in the length of the flight, size of the plane, amenities, dates, and more. But that doesn’t mean you have to go in blindly! Vault Aviation finds you the best jets at the best prices with the best amenities – every time.

The Cost of a Charter Flight on a Turboprop and Light Jet:

If you are planning on going to a big game, a special dinner, afternoon meeting, or another quick trip, then you will probably want to use a turboprop or a light jet.

This is one of the most economical choices, for example, if you want a weekend in the Hamptons on a smaller plane – then you could find a round trip private jet charter on a turboprop from New York for about $7,000.

If you want a jet instead a turboprop for your round trip, then the price for a light jet may go up to around $10,000.

Light jets are an affordable option for shorter trips, like LA to Las Vegas, or weekend getaways with a few friends, in fact, the above flight course would only take about an hour and get you and your additional passengers to Sin City and back for around $10,000 as well.

As a general rule of thumb, before taxes, turboprops and light jets cost about $3,000-5,500 per hour and can hold up to 7 passengers. So, this roughly comes out to under $1,000 per hour, per passenger.

The Cost of a Charter Flight on a Midsize Jet:

Now, let’s say you are looking for a longer flight, further destination, larger plane, or more passengers and luggage – what price should you expect then?

If you want to go from Seattle to New Orleans, then you’ll have a flight time of around 4 hours. For a round trip with 7 passengers on a midsize jet, you may be looking at a price near $35,000 – or $5,000 total per passenger, around $1,250 per person, per hour.

However, if you go an hour farther on a midsize jet, with 8 passengers, your total may move to $40,000, or around $1,000 per passenger, per hour.

This means that a round trip on a midsize jet that can hold up to 8 passengers will cost around $1,000-1,250 per person, per hour.

The Cost of a Charter Flight on a Super Midsize Jet:

If you are looking for an even longer flight (6 or 7 hours) on a larger plane, then you may be looking for a super midsize jet. This could be for an international flight (from Boston to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico) or across the United States from coast to coast.

Flights this long require larger jets in order to not need a stop for refueling – which costs more time and money. These longer flights can cost you from $65,000-75,000, or around $10,800-12,500 total per hour.

Most super midsize jets carry from 9 passengers, making these flights hover right around $1,200-1,500 per hour, per passenger.

The Cost of a Charter Flight on a Heavy Jet:

Long-haul flights are best handled by heavy jets as they are more comfortable and offer the additional perks of a bigger cabin, luxurious amenities, and flight attendants.

Something like a flight from Los Angeles to London for 12 passengers would cost around $135,000 ($11,250 per passenger). While New York to Shanghai, around 15 hours in-flight time, for 16 passengers could reach upwards of $175,000 (under $1,000 per passenger, per hour).

Heavy jets can carry from 10 to 20 passengers! Meaning the range in price per passenger, per hour, can range from $1,000 to $2,000.

With such a wide range, it is highly important for heavy jet rentals to be assisted by a well-connected private jet broker, like Vault Aviation. We have no contracts or deals with the jet owners or carriers, meaning we are only committed to finding you the best jet at the best price.

Private Jet Charter Costs Should Include:

  • Fuel for the distance you travel. These prices constantly change, so a surcharge is often added to make up the difference between the projected cost on your private jet charter quote, and the actual cost of flying.
  • Landing fees are calculated on the size and weight of your aircraft. These vary from airport to airport and go towards maintaining airport facilities, like a toll road.
  • On a return journey, ramp fees are charged when a plane is parked at an airport overnight or for other lengths of time.
  • Airport fees are charged for managing an aircraft on the ground by a Fixed Based Operator (FBO) or Aircraft Handling Company. This includes servicing the aircraft’s toilets, arranging fuel and passenger transport to and from the terminal, and rest facilities for the crew.
  • Other costs of multi-leg journeys can include overnight accommodation for private jet charter crew members and their taxis to and from the hotel to the airport during stop-overs.

The Best Private Jet Companies for Each Type of Ownership & Membership [2021]

Private Jets bring to mind luxury, ease, enjoyment, and flexibility, but this is only the case if you work with a company that values and pursues these benefits. Private air travel is becoming increasingly popular, which means there are many companies offering private jet fractional or full ownership, charters, and rentals – but not all are created equal.

Some private jet companies have been around for a long time…and have failed to innovate. Some private jet companies are brand new and still working out the kinks in their business plan and client service. But there are some private jet companies (new and old) that have got it right and strike the perfect balance between innovation and experience, service and adaptability, luxury and value.

As one of the premier Private Jet Charter Companies in the Dallas area and across the United States, Vault Aviation wanted to give our curated list of the best Private Jet Companies to work with to ensure your entire experience – from the first point of contact to booking, boarding, and landing – is just as luxe and smooth as it should be. Whether you are looking for a private jet charter, membership plan, fractional or full ownership – this list can help.

The Best Private Jet Companies in 2021

The Grandaddy: NetJets

NetJets is a good option if you are looking for fractional ownership (see the benefits and drawbacks to this type of ownership here). They also offer jet card programs but aren’t known for them.

But if their jet card programs aren’t all that amazing, then why are they at the forefront of everyone’s mind when we hear ‘private jets’ – well, because they’ve been around for over 50 years! That’s why they are the granddaddy of private jet companies.

So, if you are looking for fractional ownership options, consider reaching out to NetJets for a reliable service that is backed by more years than nearly any other company out there and over 750 jets.

The Salesman: James Edition

If you are looking to outright buy a preowned private jet with full ownership (see the benefits and drawback to this type of ownership here) then consider this widely trusted broker – James Edition.

Though you should always do your own research depending on your needs and preferences, James Edition is often considered one of the most popular private jet resellers for preowned private jet planes. You can use the filters if you have a specific requirement, like size, make, or model – but there is no guarantee that you’ll find what you are looking for, or that it will be in your best interest, price point, or area.

It is also of note to mention that you should be sure that full ownership is the way to go, meaning, you will be using the jet enough to justify the initial investment and the ongoing maintenance, etc.

The Shiny New: Embraer

If you do not want preowned, then you have many options for your brand new private jet – as there are many makes and manufacturers out there. However, one that has consistently stood out due to its ability to create exactly what its customers want, is Embraer.

Whether you want a light jet or something larger, Embraer makes it easy to ‘create’ your jet online. But don’t go it alone, make sure you talk with your financial advisor and Embraer staff to help make the process smooth and ensure you get what you want, at the price point you want.

Buying preowned can be significantly less expensive, but then you usually have to renovate or change a number of features to match your needs and style. So make sure you have done the math to see if preowned or brand-new make sense for you.

And, of course, make sure you will be using your jet often enough (at the very least, multiple times a week) to warrant such a cost.

The Member: VistaJet

VistaJet has been around for over 15 years, which means they have worked out many of the kinks in their membership-based plans for private flight.

Memberships are a good option if you know the exact number of hours you will need a private jet for, and the type of jet you will want to use. This way you can choose the correct plan for your needs with the right available aircraft.

VistaJet has a large arsenal of private planes to choose from, which is very helpful if you know what you want, when, and to where, and you have consistency within your needs. But if your needs change from year to year (103 hours of flight one year, only 74 the next year, 152 the next, etc.) then choosing a more flexible option may suit your needs best.

On Demand Private Jet Charters: Vault Aviation

Whether you want to fly once a week or once a year, Vault Aviation offers the most flexibility at the best price. No maintenance, no initial investment or purchase, no membership fees or hours to use up – we took every negative that other private jet options struggled with, and fixed them.

Just like you can call an Uber, order a movie or a pizza with a few clicks, or a phone call, you can do the same with Vault – except we don’t treat you like ‘just a call’. We want to make you a client for life, which is why we are known for our luxury, our client care, our flexibility, and our knowledge in the industry.
